Reportedly, Ubisoft is interested in acquiring Arkane Studios from Xbox.

According to reports, Xbox has received multiple offers to acquire Arkane Studios. The developer behind Dishonored is currently in discussions with Microsoft regarding the search for a new owner. Several companies, including Ubisoft, have submitted acquisition bids. There are also reports that Xbox is considering selling Arkane to its own management team.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reported that Ubisoft and at least two other gaming companies have extended acquisition offers for the French developer. The report further notes that Microsoft may also consider selling the studio to its management team.
The sale of Arkane has not yet been finalized, and Xbox has not agreed to any of the offers. The financial terms of a potential deal remain undisclosed.
As early as last September, Xbox indicated that discussions regarding Arkane were still underway and expected to continue through the end of the year. At the time, the company stated that all potential strategic options—including a sale or a spin-off—remained under consideration.
Marvel’s Blade Announced
A potential sale will also determine the fate of Marvel’s Blade, the next game currently in development at Arkane Studios. The project was announced in 2023, though no specific release date has been set. However, Bloomberg reports that the game is expected to launch within the next year or two. Finding a new buyer could very well allow Arkane Studios to continue development on Marvel’s Blade.
While Microsoft has not confirmed whether it has received any offers to acquire Arkane Studios, it told Bloomberg that it is exploring all possible options ahead of a December deadline. If the Xbox parent company fails to reach an agreement with a potential buyer, Arkane Studios could face closure.
In July, Xbox announced a major round of layoffs and confirmed that it would divest several studios, including Compulsion Games, Double Fine Productions, Ninja Theory, and Undead Labs. Around the same time, the company also began discussions with staff at Arkane to find a new owner for the French game developer.
Founded in 1999, the Lyon-based Arkane Studios is known for developing the Dishonored series and Deathloop. The studio was acquired by Bethesda in 2010. Arkane also operated another studio in Austin, Texas; however, following the commercial failure of Redfall, the Arkane Austin studio was shut down by Xbox in 2024.
